3 Absolutely Epic Scenes From Star Wars Jedi: Survivor
Warning: If you haven't played through the game already, this is your moment to leave. Seriously, turn back now.
I kid you not – I've played Star Wars Jedi: Survivor twice. The second time, I racked up a full 50 hours of playtime, if you’d believe it. So, I don’t exaggerate when I say that these scenes are etched into my retinas. Spoilers – dear gamers – are peppered ahead aplenty. So, read on at your peril.
Initially, I thought of doing a top 10 scenes list, but that would have given away too much of the story; so I stuck to three. Star Wars Jedi: Survivor offers way more than sparks and sabers—although there's plenty of that. Some scenes will make you nostalgic for Fallen Order, some will tug at your heartstrings, and others will dazzle your eyes.
So, here are my top 3 picks.
1. The Coruscant Heist Sequence
Because this sequence takes place on Coruscant, I’m unashamedly biased towards it.
Coruscant is such an iconic planet in the Star Wars galaxy – one of my favorites. From the moment Senator Seijon gets impaled by the Ninth Sister's lightsaber to when Cal beheads the Ninth Sister… what do I say! The twists and turns had me on the edge of my seat from the very beginning.
I really thought Senator Seijon would play a big role in the story, especially given his frequent appearances in the game's promos. However, when he was taken out of the equation in the very first act, I was gobsmacked. I guess this is the moment it hits you – even though you’re a Jedi at heart, you can’t guess the storyline of this game.
A word on the combat: Cal's confrontation with the Ninth Sister is the epitome of lightsaber combat – you can tell from how he moves that Cal is not a boy anymore. The emotional impact peaks when Cal beheads the Ninth Sister. It’s a moment where you first see the dark shades in Cal’s personality, and you’ve got to love it. The heist itself is high-stakes; Cal and pals have to break into heavily guarded facilities, and given what you’ve seen already, the tension is just mouthwatering.
2. Nova Garon: The Imperial Base Sequence
Next up is the Nova Garon sequence.
This one's got a completely different vibe. It picks off as a classic infiltration mission. You’ve for Cal gone undercover in an Imperial officer disguise.
Every step Cal takes through those cold, sterile corridors feels like a risk. The lighting is oppressive, the guards are everywhere, and you're constantly on edge, waiting for the other shoe to drop.
The emotional climax hits when Cal confronts Commander Denvik. He seems to playing back in his mind the past. In his grasp is the throat of the guy who indirectly caused the deaths of some of our beloved allies. Will Cal let his anger take over? WIll he crush Denvik? It's personal, it's raw, and you can feel the anger radiating off Cal like heat from a lightsaber.
But just as Cal teeters on the edge, Marin steps in with a gut-punch of a speech. Trust me, this scene had me choked up, and the voice acting is so damn good, it'll give you goosebumps. And let's be real, that atmospheric music doesn't hurt either. It captures the tension and weight of every decision Cal makes.
This is a scene that'll stick with you long after you've put down the controller, trust me.
3. Final Ravis Encounter on the Shattered Moon of Koboh
This scene is an absolute epic showdown. A fragmented celestial body with its dark, eerie atmosphere – can you ask for a better background to what is perhaps the second-best battle of the game?
Ravis, the big bad Gendai warlord, has been built up as an unstoppable force, and he doesn't disappoint. The dude is a tank. He shrugs off Cal's attacks like they're nothing. The first phase of the fight is a whirlwind of lightsaber clashes and Force powers. You can see Cal giving it his all against this monstrous opponent.
There’s a moment when Cal unleashes everything he's got, landing hit after hit that should ended the fight. But then comes the cutscene that'll make you yell at your screen. What would have killed any other villain, has only pissed Ravis off. It's a heart-stopping moment that highlights the sheer power and resilience of the Gendai.
The second phase is where the fight truly kicks into high gear. Ravis is on a rampage, the terrain is crumbling around you, and you have to be on your A-game to dodge the energy surges and debris. It's a visual spectacle. You can feel Cal's fighting for his friends, for the galaxy. And when he finally lands that killing blow, it's a victory hard-earned and well-deserved.
Why these three, and why not others?
Now, don’t ask me why I chose these three scenes over other epic moments. Like the Flying Fortress sequence with the Dagan Gera boss battle… Or the campfire sequence on Jedha with the romantic moment between Cal and Marin… There's also the unforgettable showdown with Darth Vader…
I don't have a definitive answer, and maybe I'll write a part two to cover those.
The bottom line is simple: if you haven't played Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, stop everything and play it. And if you have played it, replay it at least once.
Happy gaming!
