Starfield achieves the best sales on Xbox Series X/S in the UK this year, maintaining the top spot in popularity for two weeks
Sales of Microsoft's consoles saw a significant increase of 76% week-on-week for the seven days ending on September 2, according to data provided by the market research firm GfK, as reported by GamesIndustry.biz.
This surge in sales can be attributed to several factors. Firstly, Bethesda's highly anticipated sci-fi RPG, "Starfield," was released on September 6 for Xbox Series X/S, PC (via Windows and Steam), and Game Pass. However, players who pre-ordered the Premium Edition or Constellation Edition were granted early access to the game, allowing them to start playing five days prior to the official release date.
Additionally, Microsoft launched the new Series S 1TB model on September 1, which contributed to 24% of the total Xbox Series console sales during the specified week.
The following week, which ended on September 9, continued to see strong sales for Xbox Series X/S consoles in the UK, marking it as the second-best week of the year for these sales, according to GfK.
These positive developments come after a relatively slow year for UK Xbox hardware sales, which had experienced a nearly 23% decline year-to-date as of the end of August.
"Starfield" also made waves by breaking Microsoft's record for the largest launch day of any Xbox Game Studios title. The game garnered an impressive player base of over six million individuals by the end of its first official day of release, with more than one million players playing concurrently, as reported by Microsoft.
Overall, it appears that the release of "Starfield" and the introduction of the new Series S 1TB model contributed to a significant boost in Microsoft's Xbox console sales in the UK, marking a positive turnaround from the previous year's trends.
