Ubisoft has announced that accounts with purchased games that are inactive will not be closed, clarifying a statement made by their support account on Twitter over the weekend.

Last week, a Twitter user reported receiving an email from Ubisoft warning that their account, along with all purchased games, would be closed and inaccessible if they didn't click a link to activate their account within a certain period.

Ubisoft's Twitter support account confirmed this, stating that users could avoid account closure by logging in within 30 days (from the time of receiving the email) and selecting the "Cancel Account Closure" link in the email.

This statement caused concern and condemnation among players who feared that their inactive Ubisoft accounts would lead to the disappearance of all their purchased games and accounts.

However, Ubisoft clarified the situation in a statement to DualShockers, explaining that the closure of inactive accounts is indeed driven by the GDPR law of the European Union, which mandates the retention of users' personal information for a specific period.

Nevertheless, before deleting inactive accounts, Ubisoft takes several factors into account, including whether they have purchased PC games. As a result, accounts with purchased PC games are exempt from deletion.

Ubisoft also added, "In practice, today we have never deleted accounts that have been inactive for less than 4 years."
