Lately, Paradox, known for keeping players up until dawn conquering the world (or galaxy) with their colossal grand strategy games, has been exploring new ways to keep them awake well past bedtime. They've already released the early access colony simulator, Stardeus, and announced Life By You, a Sims-like game set to launch next year. Today, another game joins this lineup: Foundry.

Published by Paradox Interactive and developed by the new studio Channel 3 Entertainment, Foundry drops you into an infinite, procedurally generated world and sets the task of constructing a massive factory. Visually, the game employs a voxel-based style, and Channel 3 proudly highlights that every block can be destroyed or replaced with buildings or new terrain, allowing players to shape the landscape and turn it into an industrial space.

Starting a new game generates an entirely new world with various biomes like jungles and mountains. You can even build within mountains, creating underground factories and mines. Different biomes are likely to present distinct logistical challenges, but Channel 3 has yet to reveal specific details.

The first-person perspective may remind players of the excellent game Satisfactory, but Factorio remains the touchstone for this subgenre. Foundry's procedural approach is one of the features it shares with the outstanding simulation game by Wube.

Naturally, you'll need to gather resources, which can then be transformed into machines and buildings, filling the world with pipes and conveyor belts as you automate your industrial empire. The trailer suggests that you'll be able to create an army of robots to assist you, and even play as a robot yourself.

Your friends can also join you in this monumental endeavor, and while Channel 3 recommends multiplayer for 2-4 players, there are currently no player limits. Imagine what could be achieved with 100 players all working together in the same world - an exciting prospect, although that dream might be a bit too ambitious.

Fortunately, you won't have to wait long to learn more about Foundry, as the game will be featured in the upcoming Steam Next Fest, starting on October 9th.
