According to internal Activision documents that became known during Microsoft's legal dispute with the US Federal Trade Commission, which were reviewed by The Verge, Nintendo provided information about its plans for the Switch 2 last year.

According to these documents, Activision executives, including CEO Bobby Kotick, met with Nintendo executives, including President Shuntaro Furukawa, to discuss the successor to the Switch console on December 15, 2022.

The briefing materials sent to Kotick before the meeting by Chris Schnakenberg, head of Activision's platform strategy and partner relations, seemed to suggest that the company expected the console's performance to be comparable to that of the PS4 and Xbox One.

"Given the close alignment with Gen8 platforms in terms of performance and our previous offerings on PS4/ Xbox One, it is reasonable to assume that we could create something compelling for the NG Switch as well," he wrote. "It would be helpful to gain early access to development hardware prototypes and test this out early."

However, as a witness in July during Microsoft's legal battle with the FTC, Kotick claimed that Activision had no information about the specifications of Nintendo's next console.

Kotick, who admitted to making an error in not bringing Call of Duty to the Switch despite the console's commercial success, was asked if it was likely that future entries in the series would be released for new Nintendo hardware.

"I think we would consider it once we had the specs, but we don't have them at the moment," he said.

Asked again, he reiterated, "As I mentioned earlier, once we have the detailed specifications... We missed this opportunity in the previous generation with the Switch, so I would like to think we would be able to do that, but we'll have to wait for the specifications."
