NiKo Teases Fans About Becoming G2's CS2 Captain Amid Major Roster Changes

G2 Esports player Nikola "NiKo" Kovac teased his fans by asking if he should become the captain of the CS2 team. The CS2 star conducted a poll on X.

After the survey ended, NiKo's post had gathered over 60,000 votes. The majority of fans (59.4%) wanted him to become an IGL, while 40% did not think it was a good idea.Many CS2 pros, including G2's newcomer Mario "malbsMd" Samayoa, supported NiKo and called him their "captain." Their star AWPer, Ilya "m0NESY" Osipov, also participated in the voting but did not reveal his choice, only saying that "it's obvious."

NiKo was widely criticized for his attempts to be an IGL in the past. He tried to lead in MOUZ and later in FaZe Clan after the departure of karrigan. None of these periods were successful, and his performance declined. This time, however, the debate around the topic is not as intense. He called the shots during IEM Dallas 2024 while playing with a stand-in recently, and many of his former critics said NiKo had matured enough to fit the role.

On July 1, G2 Esports moved Rasmus "HooXi" Nielsen to the bench. The team now has two options: find a new captain or get a strong anchor, with NiKo as the IGL. Fans might get the answer soon, as the BLAST Premier roster lock date is July 5.
